Macedonia - Iceland 19:23 (10:10)

Palacio de San Pablo, Seville

Iceland put an end to Macedonia's dreams. In a tense, equal game, Iceland have come out on top to win a great victory over the warriors of Macedonia. Zvonko Shundovski's seven had their dreams shattered of having a perfect three days (19-23). There's no doubt that the defence overweighed the attacks in the first half. Iceland started the game with intense athleticism and speed on the wings, furthermore with a defence that closed of Lazarov (one goal with 20% accuracy) and Macedonia conceded in the first 8 minutes (0-4). It was drawn totally equal at the break (10-10). Iceland had an identical start to the first half with the same partial (0-4, 10-14) and they escaped up the scoreboard. The northern Europeans, guided by Gustavsson, maintained the gap to the end.

Zvonko Shundovski (Macedonian head coach):

"It was not a beautiful game. We made technical mistakes. Their goalie made a great match".

Borko Ristovski (Macedonia):
"We played well, but we made mistakes in attack. In the second half we gave up. Tomorrow we will have to play better."

Aron Kristjansson (Icelandic head coach):

"We stopped Lazarov very well and that helped a lot. In the fast breaks we were good. The goalkeeper is another solution, and ours was good".

Guojon Sigurdsson (Iceland):

"They have Lazarov and a great goalie and we knew how to stot them„
