FC Barcelona Lassa presented on Wednesday their latest signing in Czech full-back Filip Jícha from THW Kiel. The 33-year-old arrives at Barça "with the aim of helping the team win all of the competitions once again". Coach Xavi Pascual believes that the club has "signed one of Europe's best players, an imposing player in attack and someone who will also help greatly in defence". Jícha was keen to show his delight at signing for the Catalans and stated his intention of winning Europe's biggest prize, which he has managed twice in the past with Kiel.

"It's an honour to be part of this club and my aim is to help the team retain the Champions League. I won a number of titles in Germany but coming here is a challenge," Jícha declared. The Czech admitted that he spoke with former Barça player Nikola Karabatic before making his decision to join the club: "Yes we spoke because we were teammates. He told me that I would like it here and that it's a great team." Jícha has often been likened to the Frenchman but does not feel pressured in any way by such talk. "I'm not worried about comparisons with him (Karabatic), I know what I'm capable of and I will always try to improve," he concluded.
